Preview Roundups
November 24, 2017
Pittsburgh at Boston 1:00 PM ET
The Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins find themselves in the same position prior to Friday's matinee at TD Garden despite taking vastly different paths to get there. The Bruins have won three in a row to elevate into fourth place in the Atlantic Division while the reigning Stanley Cup champions have cooled considerably after a hot start with losses in eight of 12 (4-6-2) to drop into fourth in the Metropolitan.
Winnipeg at Anaheim 4:00 PM ET
Winnipeg signed Steve Mason to a two-year contract in the offseason to be its top goaltender, a job that now belongs to Connor Hellebuyck, but as the Jets visit the Anaheim Ducks on Friday they have two netminders who are playing well. Mason made 38 saves Wednesday as the Jets grinded out a 2-1 road victory against Los Angeles, holding off the Kings off in the final minutes as Winnipeg earned at least a point for the 13th time in its past 15 games.
Colorado at Minnesota 4:00 PM ET
Nathan MacKinnon established career-best goal (24) and point (63) totals during his rookie season in 2013-14, numbers that he hasn't come close to matching. That could change this season for the white-hot MacKinnon, who looks to lead the Colorado Avalanche to their third straight victory at the Minnesota Wild on Friday afternoon.
NY Islanders at Philadelphia 4:00 PM ET
The New York Islanders vie for just their first home-and-home sweep of the Philadelphia Flyers in nearly 36 years on Friday when the Metropolitan Division rivals meet in the City of Brotherly Love. Josh Bailey capped his fourth three-point performance of the season by scoring 32 seconds into overtime on Wednesday as New York remained the lone NHL team without a regulation loss on home ice (7-0-2) with a 4-3 triumph.
Tampa Bay at Washington 5:00 PM ET
Captain Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom were reunited for the first time this season Wednesday and the shuffled lines gave the Washington Capitals a boost that led to five goals along with a win. The two All-Stars combined for a goal and an assist last time out and are likely to skate together again Friday when the Capitals host the NHL-best Tampa Bay Lightning, who start a four-game trip.
San Jose at Vegas 6:00 PM ET
The Vegas Golden Knights continue to defy logic as they try for their eighth straight home victory when they host the San Jose Sharks on Friday in the teams' first meeting. Vegas (13-6-1) matched the NHL record for victories by an expansion team in its first 20 games set by the 1917-18 Montreal Canadiens with a 4-2 victory at Anaheim on Wednesday behind No. 4 goaltender Maxime Lagace, who was making his 10th straight start.
Edmonton at Buffalo 7:00 PM ET
The disappointing Edmonton Oilers hope to build some momentum after their last performance when they visit the struggling Buffalo Sabres on Friday night. Edmonton, a preseason Stanley Cup pick by many which currently sits second-to-last in the Western Conference, snapped a three-game slide with an impressive 6-2 victory at Detroit on Wednesday.
Vancouver at New Jersey 7:00 PM ET
The New Jersey Devils will try to cool off rookie forward Brock Boeser and find more consistency to their game when they host the surging Vancouver Canucks on Friday night. The Devils are 3-3-4 since knocking off Vancouver 2-0 on Nov. 1 and must figure out a way to stop Boeser, who has scored six of his team-high 11 goals in the last four games - four in the past two as the Canucks started their road trip with two wins.
Detroit at NY Rangers 7:00 PM ET
The New York Rangers have recovered from a dreadful start to the season and have a chance to continue their current hot stretch when they open a four-game homestand against the Detroit Red Wings on Friday night. New York won just one of its first eight games but is 8-2-0 over its last 10 after rolling to a 6-1 victory at Carolina on Wednesday night.
Ottawa at Columbus 7:00 PM ET
The Columbus Blue Jackets are off to an outstanding start for the second consecutive season, one that has carried them to the top of the Metropolitan Division. The Blue Jackets will take a five-game winning streak into Friday's home matchup against the Ottawa Senators, who are headed in the other direction with four straight losses.
Toronto at Carolina 7:30 PM ET
Nazem Kadri has dented the scoresheet in a career-high eight straight games, but the Toronto Maple Leafs have mustered just one goal in back-to-back losses after erupting for 21 during their six-game winning streak. Kadri looks to continue his streak while nipping that of the Leafs in the bud on Friday when they visit the Carolina Hurricanes.
Nashville at St. Louis 8:00 PM ET
The St. Louis Blues began their five-game homestand with an emphatic victory and look to extend their overall winning streak to four games when they host the Nashville Predators on Friday. St. Louis, which occupies first place in the Central Division, trounced Edmonton 8-3 on Tuesday to improve to 8-2-0 at Scottrade Center this season.
Los Angeles at Arizona 9:00 PM ET
Los Angeles visits the Arizona Coyotes on Friday in a series which has seen the road team win six straight games, and the Kings will take any statistical advantage they can get. Los Angeles lost 2-1 to Winnipeg on Wednesday, falling to 2-6-1 in a stretch that has seen it score more than three goals only in the wins after a 10-2-1 start.
Calgary at Dallas 9:00 PM ET
Two teams that were unable to score last time out do battle Friday as the Calgary Flames visit the Dallas Stars. Calgary fell to 2-1-1 on its six-game road trip with Wednesday's 1-0 overtime loss at Columbus, while Dallas saw its road losing streak reach five games (0-4-1) with a 3-0 setback in Colorado.
