Preview Roundups
November 12, 2017
Jacksonville at Georgetown 12:00 PM ET
The Patrick Ewing era will begin Sunday when Georgetown hosts Jacksonville in a non-conference game. Ewing takes over a program that has endured back-to-back losing seasons, but a game with the Dolphins should allow the new coach and his team a chance to get started on a positive note.
South Carolina State at Boston College 1:00 PM ET
Everything went as planned in the opener for Boston College, which will try to make it two straight out of the gate against visiting South Carolina State on Sunday. Backcourt stars Jerome Robinson and Ky Bowman scored 18 points apiece in the Eagles' 85-65 win over Maine on Friday, and the two standout guards were electric once they found their groove in the second half.
Monmouth-NJ at Seton Hall 1:30 PM ET
Seton Hall will continue with the Battle of New Jersey on Sunday when it tips off against visiting Monmouth. The No. 23 Pirates got just about everyone involved in beating in-state foe Fairleigh Dickinson for their eighth straight season opening win and will now look to stay unbeaten against the Hawks.
No.Carolina A&T at Clemson 2:00 PM ET

Clemson looks to continue its early-season dominance over smaller schools from the Carolinas when it hosts North Carolina A&T on Sunday. The Tigers rolled to an 85-57 win over Western Carolina in Friday’s season opener.

George Mason at Louisville 2:00 PM ET
Following a second straight offseason in which his program was at the center of controversy, Louisville coach Rick Pitino was fired in mid-October for his alleged involvement in a recruiting scandal. Interim head coach David Padgett will get his first crack at proving he is worthy of handling the job on a full-time basis Sunday when the 16th-ranked Cardinals host George Mason.
Radford at Ohio St. 2:30 PM ET
Keita Bates-Diop suffered through an injury-plagued 2016-17 season and looks to put two strong performances together to start the new campaign when Ohio State hosts Radford on Sunday afternoon. The junior forward, who missed all but nine games last season with a stress fracture in his left leg, recorded his seventh career double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds as the Buckeyes opened with a 95-64 win over Robert Morris on Friday.
Central Conn. St. at Rutgers 2:30 PM ET
Rutgers looks to keep trending in the right direction when it hosts Central Connecticut State on Sunday in the opener of the Showcase On The Banks tournament for both teams. The Scarlet Knights have won nine consecutive non-conference home games under second-year coach Steve Pikiell, including a convincing 94-39 victory over CCNY in their season opener, and hope to continue that success by downing Central Connecticut for the third time is as many years.
Nebraska Omaha at Oklahoma 3:00 PM ET

Coming off a dismal 11-20 campaign and mixed results in the preseason, Oklahoma is anxious to see how its young team will perform when it opens the season at home Sunday against Omaha. The visiting Mavericks are looking to bounce back from an 89-80 overtime loss to Montana State in their season opener on Friday.

Vermont at Kentucky 3:30 PM ET
Fourth-ranked Kentucky hosts Vermont on Sunday and hopes to control the tempo like it did - for the second half anyway - against Utah Valley two days earlier. The Wildcats trailed by nine at halftime, shooting 20.6 percent prior to intermission, before rallying for a 73-63 victory in the season opener as their running game exploded after the break.
Navy at Miami-Florida 4:00 PM ET
No. 12 Miami (Fla.) was slow out of the gate in the opener Friday, but picked up the pace in the second half and exploded past Gardner-Webb 77-45. Miami will look to build off that win at home Sunday against a surprising Navy team that comes off its first victory over an ACC foe since 1971, as the Midshipmen defeated Pittsburgh 71-62.
Charleston Southern at NC State 4:00 PM ET

Kevin Keatts’ debut as North Carolina State’s coach resulted in a dominant performance, and the Wolfpack will try to repeat it when they host Charleston Southern on Sunday. Seven players scored in double figures in the Wolfpack’s 102-67 rout of VMI on Friday in Keatts’ first game at the helm.

Chicago St. at Purdue 4:00 PM ET
No. 21 Purdue showed in its season opener that there was no reason to be concerned about losing All-American forward Caleb Swanigan to the NBA. The Boilermakers aim to improve to 42-2 in November home games under 13th-year coach Matt Painter when Chicago State visits Sunday as part as the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament.
Louisiana Monroe at Southern Methodist 4:00 PM ET
Shake Milton will be the centerpiece of the SMU offense early this season, including in Sunday's home game against Louisiana Monroe, while the team grows together. The junior guard had a career-high 28 points in Friday's opener that featured five new players for the Mustangs.
Cal Poly SLO at California 4:00 PM ET
If California’s season opener was any indication, the Bears’ rebuilding effort could require even more patience than originally thought. Cal heads into Sunday’s matchup against visiting Cal Poly looking to bounce back from a lackluster showing against UC Riverside on Friday, when they trailed by as many as 23 points in the first half of a 74-66 loss.
Texas Southern at Washington St. 4:00 PM ET
Ernie Kent was one of the key members of Dick Harter's famed "Kamikaze Kids" teams at Oregon in the mid-70's that were known for their tenacious defense and playing with reckless abandon, including upsetting Bill Walton-led and seven-time defending national champion UCLA in Eugene in 1974. But Kent is now focused on speeding up his team's offense in his fourth year as head coach at Washington State, which opens its season Sunday afternoon against visiting Texas Southern.
Alabama St. at Iowa 4:05 PM ET
Iowa looks to build on a convincing season-opening win when it hosts Alabama State in the preliminary round of the Cayman Islands Classic on Sunday. The Hawkeyes shot 54.5 percent from 3-point range en route to a 95-62 victory against Chicago State on Friday and hope to stay hot from beyond the arc as they look to beat Alabama State for the second time in program history following a 73-64 win in 2001.
Fairleigh Dickinson at Penn St. 5:00 PM ET
Tony Carr made a big statement in the season opener for Penn State and the sophomore guard will hope for an encore performance when the Nittany Lions host Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday. Carr, who reached the 20-point mark seven times as a freshman, hit the 30-point plateau for the first time in his career with 33 in an 86-75 win over Campbell on Friday.
Coppin St. at East Carolina 5:00 PM ET
After a disastrous preseason, East Carolina opens it campaign Sunday against Coppin State minus three players. The Pirates dismissed starting point guard Jeremy Sheppard and key reserve Raquan Wilkins because of a violation of team rules and found out late this week that Virginia Tech transfer Seth LeDay was not cleared by the NCAA.
Bucknell at Arkansas 6:00 PM ET
Basically everything went right for Arkansas in its season opener on Friday. Two days later, the Razorbacks hope to mirror that performance when they host Bucknell in a quality non-league matchup.
Tenn-Martin at Illinois 6:00 PM ET
Illinois is hoping to continue the dominant play from its season opener when it hosts Tennessee Martin on Sunday in a non-conference contest that is part of the Global Sports Invitational. The Fighting Illini romped in their first contest under coach Brad Underwood, defeating Southern on Friday by 47 points, while the Skyhawks are looking for their first victory after a high-scoring overtime loss at Marshall.
Maryland - E. Shore at Maryland 6:00 PM ET
Maryland’s season-opening victory Friday was marked by highlights from some of the Terrapins' top players, as well as a few areas in which coach Mark Turgeon seeks improvement when his team hosts Maryland-Eastern Shore on Sunday. Friday’s 76-61 triumph over Stony Brook featured a balanced scoring approach in the first game since the departure of Melo Trimble, and forward Justin Jackson’s third career double-double stood out as five players reached double figures in scoring.
Yale at Wisconsin 6:00 PM ET
Wisconsin coach Greg Gard was wondering how he would replace five players who accounted for 62 percent of the scoring and 61 percent of the minutes for a team that went to its 19th consecutive NCAA Tournament last season. He received more than one answer in the Badgers’ opening-night win against South Carolina State but will receive a tougher test Sunday when a quality Yale team visits as part of the Hall of Fame Classic.
MD Baltimore County at Arizona 6:00 PM ET

Amid a pair of suspensions and the lingering uneasiness over the ongoing FBI investigation into college basketball corruption, No. 5 Arizona tipped off the season Friday with a 101-67 win over Northern Arizona. Game 2 of the Wildcats’ season-opening three-game homestand continues Sunday when they host UMBC.

Princeton at Butler 6:00 PM ET
Kelan Martin made sure that LaVall Jordan's debut at Butler was a victorious one. Martin aims for an encore performance Sunday as the Bulldogs host Princeton in an intriguing non-conference matchup.
The Citadel at Virginia Tech 7:00 PM ET
There were plenty of positives for Virginia Tech after a blowout victory in Friday’s season opener, but plenty of eyes will be on forward Chris Clarke entering Sunday’s home contest against The Citadel. Nine months after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee, Clarke played 18 minutes and scored nine points in a reserve role in Friday’s 111-79 win, and the veteran who averaged 28.9 minutes before the injury a season ago will be brought along slowly in his return.
Alcorn St. at Creighton 7:00 PM ET
Marcus Foster and Khyri Thomas each received All-Big East recognition in the preseason and proved why they were worthy in Creighton's season-opening victory over Yale. The impressive backcourt duo will try to put together another impressive showing Sunday when the Bluejays host Alcorn State.
Howard at Indiana 8:00 PM ET
Indiana looks to bounce back from an ugly loss in its season opener when it hosts Howard on Sunday in the first contest of the Hoosier Tip-Off Classic. The Hoosiers were blown out by Indiana State by 31 points on Friday, while the Bison are coming off a nine-point road loss to George Washington.
Eastern Washington at Washington 8:00 PM ET

Game 1 of the Mike Hopkins era went down as a win Friday but it was anything but easy for Washington in a come-from-behind 86-82 victory over visiting Belmont. The Huskies will try to smooth out some more wrinkles Sunday night when they host Eastern Washington.

Pacific at Stanford 10:00 PM ET
Stanford may have found the perfect complement to star forward Reid Travis in freshman guard Isaac White, who announced his arrival with 17 points in Friday’s season opener. The Cardinal look to build on the 78-62 win over Cal Poly on Sunday when they face visiting Pacific, which was picked to finish eighth in the West Coast Conference preseason coaches poll.
