Preview Roundups
May 12, 2017
Houston at NY Yankees 7:05 PM ET
An early-season showdown among two of the American League's best teams will have a hard act to follow after a dramatic ending to the series opener. The visiting Houston Astros will carry a four-game winning streak and the best record in the majors into Friday's matchup against the New York Yankees in the second of a four-game set.
Philadelphia at Washington 7:05 PM ET
A dramatic walk-off victory following by an unexpected extra day of rest has the Washington Nationals in a better physical state as they prepare to open a three-game series against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night. Washington snapped a four-game skid with a 7-6 Wednesday before Thursday's game versus Baltimore was rained out.
Seattle at Toronto 7:07 PM ET
The Toronto Blue Jays answered a brutal start to the season by turning jeers into cheers with their recent spirited play at Rogers Center. Winners of four of five overall, the Blue Jays vie for their sixth victory in their last seven outings at home on Friday when they play the second contest of their four-game series against the Seattle Mariners.
Atlanta at Miami 7:10 PM ET
The Miami Marlins are losers of three straight and 12 of their last 15 games as the offense struggles to keep up with a leaky pitching staff. The Atlanta Braves, who visit the Marlins on Friday for the opener of a three-game series, are losers of six straight and are tied with Miami for the most losses in the National League East (20).
Minnesota at Cleveland 7:10 PM ET
Ervin Santana penned a brilliant beginning to the season with six scintillating starts before coming unglued in his last trip to the mound. The 34-year-old looks to atone for that performance on Friday as the Minnesota Twins visit Progressive Field to open a three-game series against the Cleveland Indians.
Tampa Bay at Boston 7:10 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays went from 12 runs one day to zero the next in finishing out a 3-6 homestand and are looking ahead at a six-game road trip against a pair of teams that were in the playoffs last season. The Rays will kick off the trip by visiting American League East rival Boston Red Sox in the opener of a three-game series on Friday.
Oakland at Texas 8:05 PM ET
The Texas Rangers answered an offensive malaise in which they scored six runs during a three-game losing skid by erupting for 20 during their current three-game winning streak. The Rangers look to continue to swing loud bats on Friday when they begin their third three-game series of the season against the Oakland Athletics, with this one at Globe Life Park.
San Diego at Chi. White Sox 8:10 PM ET
Two teams in the midst of losing streaks square off Friday, when the Chicago White Sox host the San Diego Padres for the opener of a three-game series. Chicago has dropped a season-high five consecutive games and eight of its last 10 while San Diego has lost three straight contests and seven of eight.
NY Mets at Milwaukee 8:10 PM ET
As if the New York Mets haven't experienced enough adversity with their rotation, they face the real possibility of being without their closer for a significant amount of time. Following a diagnosis of an arterial clot in Jeurys Familia's right shoulder on their day off, the Mets take their short-handed pitching staff to Milwaukee for the opener of a three-game set Friday against the Brewers.
Baltimore at Kansas City 8:15 PM ET
While the Baltimore Orioles own the best home record in the majors, they had their six-game winning streak snapped in the opener of a scheduled eight-game road trip. Following Thursday's rainout at rival Washington, the Orioles continue the trek with the first of three games at the American League-worst Kansas City Royals.
Chi. Cubs at St. Louis 8:15 PM ET

The St. Louis Cardinals have won a season-high six straight games to take over the top spot in the National League Central, and they catch the defending World Series champions in a slump this weekend. The Chicago Cubs have dropped five of their last six as they head to St. Louis for a three-game series against their nemesis that begins Friday.

LA Dodgers at Colorado 8:40 PM ET
Clayton Kershaw looks to defeat Colorado for the 20th time in his career when the Los Angeles Dodgers visit the Rockies for the second contest of their four-game series on Friday. Kershaw is 19-6 with a 3.15 ERA in 34 career starts against Colorado and has split two decisions this season, with the loss occurring at Coors Field on April 8.
Pittsburgh at Arizona 9:40 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Pirates are spiraling in the wrong direction and look to halt a season-high five-game losing streak when they visit the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday for the second contest of their four-game series. The Pirates recorded just one hit - a home run by Gregory Polanco - while falling 2-1 on Thursday for their ninth setback in 12 games.
Detroit at LA Angels 10:07 PM ET
The Detroit Tigers received a boost from the return of a key player in the series opener, but the Los Angeles Angels were not as fortunate. Detroit looks to make it two straight Friday as it continues its nine-game road trip with the second contest of the four-game set against Los Angeles.
Cincinnati at San Francisco 10:15 PM ET
The San Francisco Giants had two starting position players return to the lineup Thursday but still weren’t able to solve the Cincinnati Reds, who have won all four meetings between the teams this season. The Giants look to break the streak Friday as they continue their four-game series against the visiting Reds, who have won seven of their last eight overall.
