Alex Ovechkin scored twice and the Washington Capitals netted three goals in just under 2 1/2 minutes in the third period en route to their sixth straight win, a 5-2 road triumph over the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday.

Tomas Vokoun turned aside 40 shots and Mathieu Perrealt, Joel Ward and veteran defenseman Roman Hamrlik collected their first goals of the season for Washington, which extended its franchise-best start and improved to 10-0-3 against Philadelphia. The Flyers haven't defeated the Capitals in regulation since a 4-2 road triumph on Feb. 24, 2009.

With the game tied at 1-1, Nicklas Backstrom's shot was denied by Ilya Bryzgalov, but Ovechkin cleaned up the rebound on the doorstep with 12 seconds remaining in the first period.

Ovechkin, who has secured at least one point in nine straight contests against Philadelphia, collected his 22nd career goal in 23 games versus the Flyers with a power-play tally in the third period.

Making his fifth straight start, Vokoun stymied a Philadelphia club which entered the contest averaging a league-best 3.78 goals per game. The veteran netminder overcame Claude Giroux's team-leading fifth goal of the season with 5:35 remaining in the first period and essentially shut down the high-powered Flyers from there.

Rookie Sean Couturier scored for the second time in as many games and former Capitals star Jaromir Jagr had five shots on goal for Philadelphia, which suffered its first loss in regulation this season.
