Denis Gurianov scored in the fifth round of a shootout, giving the surging Dallas Stars a third consecutive win, 3-2 over the visiting Detroit Red Wings on Monday night.
Roope Hintz had a goal and an assist, Jason Robertson also scored and Miro Heiskanen notched two assists for Dallas.
Anton Khudobin (20 saves) made a huge pad stop on Evgeny Svechnikov's shot in the fourth round of the shootout for the Stars, who are amid a 5-0-2 stretch. With Dallas trying to move into playoff position in the Central Division and Detroit looking to serve as spoiler, the teams tangled for the first of four straight meetings over a six-day stretch.
Gurianov made a strong move to beat Detroit goaltender Thomas Greiss (34 saves), and Khudobin followed by stopping Filip Hronek's attempt to improve the Stars to 3-12 in games decided past regulation.
Luke Glendening scored twice and Alex Biega had two assists for the Red Wings, who are 3-1-1 in the last five overall but lost for a seventh straight time at Dallas.
The Stars opened the scoring by ending an 0-for-12 power-play drought when Hintz connected inside the left post for his 14th goal of the season with 4:10 left in the first period.
In the second period, Detroit managed to kill off an early penalty, then immediately tied the game when Glendening put home a rebound of Svechnikov's shot at 7:45.
However, Dallas took the lead right back when Calder Trophy (top rookie) candidate Robertson pushed a rebound of Hintz's side shot to make it 2-1 at 11:06 of the second.
Glendening again tied the contest, this time redirecting a point shot from Biega through Khudobin's legs with 3:05 remaining in the second period.
The Red Wings appeared to go up 3-2 early in third off Sam Gagner's wrister, but it was quickly waved off because of goaltender interference.
Detroit's Jakub Vrana, recently acquired in a trade with the Washington Capitals, was out of the lineup Monday due to a non-COVID-19-related illness.
