Jeff Petry scored his first two goals of the season as the host Detroit Red Wings downed the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2 on Saturday night.
Petry hadn't scored since April 11 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Meanwhile, goaltender Ville Husso got his first victory in over a year. Husso, who made 23 saves, had an 0-4-2 record this season entering Saturday.
Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond also scored for the Red Wings, who won for just the second time in eight games. Raymond put home an empty-netter for his 10th goal in his past 12 games.
Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies had the goals for Toronto. Joseph Woll made 22 saves.
Both teams squandered power-play opportunities in the opening period. The Wings took the lead at 9:07 of the first when Petry ripped a wrist shot from the right point past a screened Woll. Joe Veleno and Christian Fischer were credited with assists on the play.
The Maple Leafs appeared to tie the game with just under seven minutes left in the period when Mitch Marner found the back of the net. However, the Red Wings challenged the goal, and it was deemed that Toronto was offside.
Toronto cashed in on its second power play of the game, scoring with 8:20 left in the second period. With Jonatan Berggren in the penalty box for cross-checking, Matthews fired a slap shot from the right side past Husso. Matthews has 18 goals in 25 career games against Detroit.
Detroit regained the lead with 17.8 seconds left in the period. Andrew Copp made a circle-to-circle pass to Seider, who elevated a shot over Woll's left pad. Patrick Kane also picked up an assist on the goal.
The Maple Leafs tied the game again at 1:07 of the third period. Knies redirected a Marner shot, and it bounced past Husso.
Petry put Detroit back on top 44 seconds later, shoveling in a rebound of a J.T. Compher shot to make it 3-2.
Raymond scored in the closing seconds to clinch Detroit's win.
