Clyde Trapp scored a career-high 17 points, including a driving layup with 2.5 seconds remaining, as Clemson topped visiting Syracuse 71-70 Tuesday night in an Atlantic Coast Conference game.

Trapp, who was playing in just his 10th game after missing the first 10 games of the season to complete his recovery from knee surgery, made 6 of 9 attempts from the floor, including 4 of 7 from 3-point range. The junior guard also had a career-high nine rebounds.

Tevin Mack scored a career-high 32 points for the Tigers, who improved to 11-9 overall and 5-5 in ACC play. Mack, a graduate transfer from Alabama, made 12 of 17 attempts from the floor and also grabbed 10 rebounds.

Syracuse, which had a five-game winning streak snapped, fell to 13-8 (6-4 ACC) after suffering their first defeat in five conference road games this season.

Elijah Hughes, the ACC's leading scorer this season, and Buddy Boeheim each scored 22 points for the Orange.

Syracuse led 35-33 at halftime and extended its lead to 10 points with 16:26 to play. The margin remained at nine with 14:19 left, but Mack scored 16 points during an 18-6 run as the Tigers pulled ahead 59-56 with 7:04 left.

Joseph Girard III made a 3-pointer with 1:34 remaining to give Syracuse a 70-67 lead, but Aamir Simms -- who had been held scoreless to that point -- made a layup with 1:11 left to pull Clemson within a point, 70-69.

Syracuse wouldn't score again, and Trapp raced downcourt to score the winning basket off a pass by Khavon Moore with 2.5 seconds left.

Girard added 10 points for Syracuse, which saw two of its big men -- Marek Dolezaj and Bourama Sidibe -- foul out.
