Jared Butler scored 14 points and dished seven assists as No. 2 Baylor relied on a balanced attack to cruise to a 99-42 victory over visiting Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Monday night at Waco, Texas.
Baylor (6-0) continued its perfect run to start the season. The Bears have won every game by double digits, with their smallest margin of victory being a 13-point victory over then-No. 5 Illinois.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-8) dropped its third game in a row and lost to a ranked team for the second time this season. The Golden Lions surrendered 90-plus points for the fifth time in nine games.
Five players scored in double digits for Baylor, with L.J. Cryer (15 points) leading the way. MaCio Teague finished with 13, Matthew Mayer had 12 and Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua scored 10 to go along with eight rebounds, which matched Flo Thamba for the team lead.
Shaun Doss Jr. notched a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds to lead UAPB. Teammate Markedric Bell was the Golden Lions' second-highest scorer with six points.
Baylor shot 52.1 percent (37 of 71) overall and 47.8 percent (11 of 23) from 3-point range. By comparison, UAPB shot only 28.3 percent (15 of 53) from the field and 27.3 percent (3 of 11) from long distance.
The Bears surged to a 55-12 lead at the half.
Cryer and Mayer led the Bears with 10 points apiece at the break. Tchamwa Tchatchoua added eight points and five boards in his first eight minutes.
Doss Jr. and Dequan Morris accounted for 10 of UAPB's 12 points before intermission. The only other Golden Lions player to score before halftime was Bell, who had one basket.
Baylor went on a 20-0 run starting with Tchamwa Tchatchoua's slam dunk with 12:14 remaining in the first half. The outburst increased the Bears' lead from 19-4 to 39-4 as UAPB endured a scoring drought that lasted 7:46.
UAPB warmed up in the second half with several mini-scoring runs, including a 7-0 stretch to cut the lead to 81-37. Bell made a jump shot to start the run, which also included a 3-pointer and a jump shot by Doss Jr.
