Michael Banks III made two free throws with 2.1 seconds remaining in overtime as Georgia Tech defeated North Carolina State 82-81 in an Atlantic Coast Conference opener Tuesday night at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C.

Michael Devoe scored 22 points, including a late go-ahead floater, and Banks scored 20 togo with a game-high 14 rebounds and five blocks.

NC State's C.J. Bryce made two free throws with 35.1 seconds left in overtime for his team's final lead.

Georgia Tech missed at the other end, but an NC State turnover gave the Yellow Jackets another chance. An offensive rebound set up a feed to Banks, who was fouled in the lane by Devon Daniels.

Bryce scored a game-high 24 points, Jericole Hellems posted 15 points and Pat Andree scored all 12 of his points in the first half for NC State, which opened play with an ACC game for the first time in 52 years. Daniels also scored 12 for the Wolfpack, but committed his fifth foul on Banks in the waning seconds.

Georgia Tech never held the lead until Asanti Price's corner 3-pointer to open overtime.

Bryce scored 10 straight NC State points coming down the stretch of the second half when Georgia Tech threatened to go ahead.

Georgia Tech forward Moses Wright, playing in his hometown, scored 12 points before fouling out with 10:07 remaining in regulation.

Devoe's 3-pointer tied the score at 73-73 at the 2:22 mark of regulation. Jose Alvarado missed a hurried 3-pointer to end regulation.

Georgia Tech trimmed a 15-point hole to pull even at 48-48 with 13:40 to play.

NC State lost its season opener for just the second time in a 26-season span.

Senior guard Markell Johnson, the Wolfpack's most accomplished player, sat out with an ankle injury. Andree, a graduate transfer from Lehigh, drew the start and his 3-pointer marked the first points of the game.

NC State's lead grew to 21-9 and stretched to 15 points late in the first half before Georgia Tech closed to within 42-35 at the break. Andree scored 12 of NC State's first 24 points.

This was the first college game in PNC Arena since last March, when Georgia Tech pulled an upset of the Wolfpack, which was playing in its 2018-19 home finale. That result was considered a factor when NC State was left out of the NCAA Tournament field. Banks scored the winning basket with 1.4 seconds left in that game.
