Auburn 55, Charleston 51: Frankie Sullivan scored 20 of his 24 points in the second half as the Tigers pulled out a victory over the host Cougars in the consolation round of the Charleston (S.C.) Classic.

Sullivan, who suffered a cut that required 25 stitches at the end of the first-round loss to Murray State on Thursday, scored five straight points to give Auburn (2-1) the lead for good at 36-31. The senior also made two free throws with 17.5 seconds left to help seal a place in the fifth-place game against Dayton on Sunday.

Noel Johnson scored 12 points for Auburn and Shareif Adamu added 11, including six down the stretch to hold off Charleston (1-2).

The Cougars played without one of their top scorers in Andrew Lawrence due to a stomach virus and struggled on offense. Anthony Stitt had 11 points to lead Charleston, which will play Boston College for seventh place on Sunday.

Johnson scored 11 of his points in the first half as Auburn went on a 16-6 run to take a five-point lead. Charleston responded with eight of the final 10 points of the half – four by Matt Sundberg – to take a 23-22 halftime lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Trent Wiedeman, Charleston’s leading scorer, scored eight points before appearing to injure his ankle in the final minutes and did not return. … Johnson shot 0-of-10 from the field over his first two games before going 4-of-7 against Charleston. … Charleston outrebounded Auburn 38-21.
