Oklahoma State 62, Tennessee 45: Freshman point guard Marcus Smart finished with 17 points and nine rebounds as the Cowboys used a suffocating defense to dominate the Volunteers in the semifinal round of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off at Bayamon.

Le’Bryan Nash added 17 points for Oklahoma State (3-0), which will meet No. 6 North Carolina State in Sunday's championship game.

The Cowboys assumed control of this contest early in the first half, holding Tennessee (2-1) scoreless for a 9:22 stretch as Nash and Markel Brown each hit two free throws to turn a one-point lead into a 16-7 advantage.

The Volunteers rallied with five unanswered points, but Smart scored five points over the final 5:53 of the first half as the Cowboys stretched their lead to 30-19 at intermission and expanded it to as much as 20 points in the closing minutes.

Trae Golden scored 11 points to lead Tennessee, which shot just 26 percent from the field.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Tennessee, which had shot at least 50 percent from the field and beyond the arc in each of its first two contests, also shot only 21.7 percent from the 3-point line in this game. ... Nash made 11 of his 13 free throws, both career highs. … The Volunteers were held to their lowest point total since scoring just 44 points against Kentucky on Jan. 31.
