Washington State 71, Oregon State 68:
Mike Ladd scored 17 of his career-best 23 points in the first half and Brock Motum tallied 16 of his 20 points in the second half as the Cougars defeated the Beavers in Pac-12 play.

D.J. Shelton contributed 10 rebounds and six assists and Motum collected 10 boards for Washington State (11-9, 2-5 Pac-12), which prevailed when Oregon State’s Ahmad Starks missed a 3-pointer that would’ve forced overtime.

Starks had 17 points and eight assists and Devon Collier and Roberto Nelson tallied 14 points apiece for Oregon State (11-9, 1-6).

Motum scored seven points and Shelton drained a 3-pointer during a 10-0 spurt that gave the Cougars a 59-51 lead with 6:44 remaining. A jumper by Starks got the Beavers within 63-60 with 3:59 left and his layup with 7.9 seconds remaining made it a one-point game. Washington State’s Royce Woolridge hit two free throws prior to Starks’ last-second miss.

Oregon State led 33-29 at halftime despite Ladd going 7-of-8 from the field. The rest of the Washington State players were a combined 4-of-18 in the first half.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ladd was 10-of-11 from the field while scoring in double digits for the eighth straight game. … Langston Morris-Walker made three of Oregon State’s nine 3-pointers. … Washington State had a 33-22 rebounding edge.
