Grizzlies 89, Kings 87: Mike Conley scored 25 points and Quincy Pondexter added 17 as visiting Memphis defeated Sacramento to move one game behind Denver for the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference.

Marc Gasol contributed 15 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots and rejected Marcus Thornton’s last-second 3-point attempt to seal the victory.

DeMarcus Cousins had 22 points and nine rebounds and Isaiah Thomas had 18 points and eight assists for the Kings, who are 0-4 on a five-game homestand.

Memphis had an eight-point lead with under four minutes remaining before Sacramento rattled off nine straight to take an 85-84 lead on Cousins’ jumper with 44.8 seconds to go. Conley’s driving hoop put the Grizzlies back on top with 30 seconds left and Memphis protected the lead to complete a four-game season sweep of the Kings.

Sacramento led 44-43 at halftime but Memphis recovered to lead by as many as eight points in the third quarter. The Grizzlies led 68-64 entering the final stanza and increased the advantage to 80-73 on Tony Allen’s dunk with 6:01 remaining.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Toney Douglas added 14 points and Jimmer Fredette tallied 13 for Sacramento. … Memphis blocked 12 shots with Gasol and Allen (three) combining for eight. … Kings G Tyreke Evans had just five points on 1-of-7 shooting after averaging 23 points over the previous three games.
