Rookie Gordon Hayward scored a season-high 22 points - including the winning free throw with six seconds left - as the visiting Utah Jazz snapped their eight-game losing streak with a stunning 86-85 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday.

Kobe Bryant had a chance to win it but lost control of the ball - with Hayward draped all over him - as he began to attempt a jumper near the foul line.

Andrew Bynum had a career-high 23 rebounds and Bryant scored 20 points on just 6-for-18 shooting for the Lakers (55-22), who have lost two straight after winning nine in a row. Los Angeles fell 3 1/2 games behind San Antonio in the race for the best record in the Western Conference.

Paul Millsap scored 22 points while Hayward also had six rebounds and five assists as the Jazz (37-41) improved to just 6-18 since coach Tyrone Corbin took over for Jerry Sloan.

Hayward's 3-pointer with 7:13 remaining gave the Jazz a 68-65 lead. His driving dunk put Utah ahead, 77-76, with 3:25 to go.

Earl Watson's 3-pointer with 2:39 left gave Utah an 82-77 lead, but Bryant's 3-pointer with 16 seconds left tied it at 85.

The teams combined to shoot 38.9 percent from the field. The Lakers were 4 of 20 from 3-point range.

Hayward's best game as a pro came one day after Butler, his alma mater, lost in its second straight NCAA Tournament final.
