Matt Olson's double off the right-field wall scored the tying and winning runs with none out in the 10th inning Wednesday afternoon as the Oakland Athletics rallied for a 5-4 walk-off win over the visiting San Diego Padres.

The two-run uprising was Oakland's second in as many innings after the team trailed 3-1 entering the bottom of the ninth.

Seeking a two-game sweep, the Padres took advantage of a Matt Chapman bobble at shortstop to go up 4-3 in the top of the 10th. Chapman took over at shortstop for just the second time in his career when Yan Gomes pinch-hit for Elvis Andrus in the ninth-inning rally.

But the A's wasted no time getting to San Diego's fifth pitcher, Tim Hill (5-6), in the bottom of the inning. Starling Marte singled inherited runner Mark Canha to third on the left-hander's third pitch, before Olson nearly missed a home run with his game-winner on the next offering.

The walk-off win was Oakland's ninth of the season.

Lou Trivino (4-4), who gave up the unearned run in the top of the 10th, was credited with the win.

Down to their last strike, the A's forced extra innings with a two-run ninth after they had been limited to two hits in eight innings by Padres starter Joe Musgrove and two relievers.

Ramon Laureano ignited the game-tying burst with a leadoff double against San Diego closer Mark Melancon. With two outs, Sean Murphy walked before Chapman and Gomes delivered RBI singles, drawing the A's even at 3-3.

Earlier, Victor Caratini and Trent Grisham each doubled and scored a run as the Padres built an early 3-1 lead that they took into the ninth.

The A's scored first when Jed Lowrie led off the second with his 12th home run of the season.

The Padres tied the game against A's starter Frankie Montas in the third when Caratini doubled and scored on Adam Frazier's two-out single.

Grisham's double came in the fourth after Eric Hosmer and Jurickson Profar had singled. Hosmer scored on the hit, but right fielder Laureano gunned down Profar at the plate.

Caratini followed with a single that scored Grisham to make it 3-1.

Musgrove limited Oakland to one run and two hits in six innings. He walked three and struck out five.

Montas also went six, allowing three runs and eight hits. He struck out eight and did not walk a batter.

Caratini, Grisham and Profar had two hits apiece for the Padres, who split their four-game season series with the A's.

Olson collected two hits for the A's, who were out-hit 11-7.
