Robbie Ray allowed just two hits over six scoreless innings in his first major league start in nearly two months, and Daniel Descalso's solo home run in the eighth proved to be the winning run as the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Miami Marlins 2-1 on Monday at Marlins Park.

The Diamondbacks have won two in a row and six of their past seven games. Arizona is 10-2 in its last 12 road games.

Ray (3-0) issued two walks -- back-to-back to open the fourth inning -- and struck out six to improve his ERA from 4.88 to 4.01. Brad Boxberger, the fourth Arizona pitcher, allowed a solo home run to Starlin Castro in the ninth but held on for his 19th save of the season.

Ray, who has been working his way back from a right oblique injury, was recalled from a rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno prior to Wednesday's game. He was scheduled for a rehab start in Reno on Monday but was instead rushed back to the majors after Arizona's Clay Buchholz injured his oblique and missed his turn in the rotation.

It was Ray's first start since April 29. He is 9-0 with a 2.36 ERA in his past 15 starts.

Ray was just good enough on this night to beat Miami's Wei-Yin Chen (2-5), who allowed one run on five hits in six innings with five strikeouts and one base on balls.

Arizona got on the board in the fifth on a double by Ketel Marte, a bloop single by Chris Owings and an RBI single to center field by Deven Marrero that plated Marte. Owings tried to score as well on Marrero's hit but was thrown out at the plate by the Marlins' Lewis Brinson, a play that limited the Diamondbacks' lead to 1-0.

Descalso's solo home run in the eighth off Adam Conley, the third of five Miami pitchers, doubled the Diamondbacks' lead and provided a crucial insurance run.

Castro had two of the three hits for the Marlins, who have lost two straight after winning three in a row.
