Helped by Freddie Freeman and a strong offensive attack, Atlanta left-hander Sean Newcomb posted his seventh straight win Tuesday night as the Braves rolled to a 14-1 road victory over the San Diego Padres.

Freeman, who had a 16-game hitting streak snapped a night earlier, went 4-for-4 with a homer, two doubles and a walk. He scored three runs and drove in two.

However, Freeman was far from alone.

A night after the Padres had nine extra-base hits, the Braves equaled that total with homers by Freeman, Dansby Swanson and Nick Markakis as part of an 18-hit attack. The Braves batted around twice while scoring five runs in both the fifth and seventh innings.

Newcomb, meanwhile, ran his record to 7-1 while lowering his ERA to 2.49. He allowed no runs on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts over six innings. Three of the Padres' baserunners against Newcomb were eliminated on double-play grounders.

Right-hander Jordan Lyles (2-2) took the loss with his worst outing since moving into the rotation on May 10. He gave up eight runs on 11 hits and two walks in 4 1/3 innings. Reliever Bryan Mitchell gave up five runs on five hits and two walks in 2 2/3 innings. Infielder Cory Spangenberg pitched the ninth for the Padres and allowed the final run.

Swanson was 3-for-4 with his sixth homer and three RBIs. Markakis was 2-for-5 with his eighth homer and three RBIs. Swanson hit a two-run homer in the fifth. Markakis' three-run homer came in the seventh.

Atlanta's Kurt Suzuki was 3-for-6 with a double and two RBIs. Charlie Culberson was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

The Padres got on the board with two outs in the ninth when rookie Franmil Reyes hit a 455-foot homer off reliever Luke Jackson, who worked three innings to earn his first career save. The homer was the sixth for the San Diego rookie.
