Luke Maile drove in the winning run with a single in the 10th inning and had three RBIs in the game as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the visiting Kansas City Royals 5-4 Tuesday night to sweep a doubleheader.

It was the third win in a row for the Blue Jays (11-5) and the seventh straight loss for the Royals (3-12).

Kevin Pillar singled with one out in the 10th against left-hander Brian Flynn (0-1) and took second on a wild pitch. Aledmys Diaz was walked intentionally. Randal Grichuk was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Maile, who singled to right.

Toronto reliever Tyler Clippard (2-0) pitched around a single in the top of the 10th to earn his 50th career win.

The Blue Jays took a 4-3 lead with a four-run seventh inning, but the Royals tied the game on the first homer of the season from Alcides Escobar against Ryan Tepera with one out in the eighth.

Abraham Almonte also homered for the Royals.

Royals left-hander Danny Duffy pitched six shutout innings, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out eight.

Blue Jays starter Joe Biagini allowed three runs on six hits, three walks and two hit batters in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out four.

Biagini was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo to make the start as the 26th man for the second game of the doubleheader. It was his first start of the season with Toronto.

The Royals scored once after loading the bases with none out in the first inning on two singles and a walk. Lucas Duda was hit by a pitch to force in a run.

The Royals led 2-0 after Whit Merrifield led off the third with a walk and scored on a double by Mike Moustakas, who had three hits to extend his hit streak to nine games.

Almonte led off the sixth with his first home run of the season to give the Royals a 3-0 lead.

Justin Grimm replaced Duffy in the seventh and walked his only three batters. He was replaced by Brad Keller, who allowed a two-run single by Maile, an RBI infield single to third by pinch hitter Devon Travis and an RBI single by Steve Pearce.
