PHOENIX -- Nolan Arenado shut up a big mouth with a big hit Monday.

The Colorado third baseman hit a tiebreaking, three-run homer in the eighth inning and drove in four runs, and the Rockies extended their winning streak to five with a 5-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday at Chase Field.

Arenado had words with a fan as he approached the Colorado dugout after going deep off right-hander Jake Barrett (1-1). His 33rd homer of the season gave the Rockies a 5-2 lead.

"There was a guy who didn't stop talking the whole game, from the first," Arenado said. "It was a pretty long game, so that means there was a lot of talking. He got me fired up.

"Lucky I was able to tell him to be quiet there."

DJ LeMahieu tripled off the right field fence into a shift that had all three Arizona outfielders to the right of center field with two outs in the eighth inning. Carlos Gonzalez walked to bring up Arenado, who was hitless in four career at-bats against Barrett.

"I knew I was going to face him," Arenado said. "I knew they were going to pitch around Cargo, and I don't blame them. (Barrett) has beat me up a little bit. I think he just left one hanging, and I took advantage."

LeMahieu had three hits and drove in a run, and Arenado also doubled in a run as Colorado (79-65) moved within four games of Arizona (83-64) for the top National League wild-card spot. The Rockies are 3 1/2 games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals.

"We liked Jake's stuff against Nolan Arenado," Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said.

Barrett said, "It was a bad slider. I didn't get exactly on top of the ball. It was up, and he made good contact on the ball."

J.D. Martinez had three hits and drove in a run with an infield single in a two-run eighth inning when Arizona closed within 5-4, but left-hander Mike Dunn stranded two when he got Daniel Descalso to fly out.

Greg Holland pitched around a one-out error by second baseman LeMahieu and a walk in the ninth inning for his league-leading 40th save.

After Arizona catcher Chris Iannetta hit a 405-foot flyout to right-center for the second out, Holland threw a wild pitch to put runners on second and third before A.J. Pollock grounded out.

"We don't stop, they don't stop," Colorado manager Bud Black said. "They are where they are because of the way they play, and we're the same way."

Left-hander Tyler Anderson (4-5) gave up one hit in four innings of scoreless relief. He replaced starter Kyle Freeland, who was removed after being struck by a Martinez line drive in the fourth inning. Freeland was diagnosed with a left shoulder contusion.

Anderson, who had knee surgery over the summer, was activated from the 60-day disabled list Sunday.

"You could say he was the key to the game, pitching," Black said.

Paul Goldschmidt, Adam Rosales and Zack Greinke knocked in a run apiece for the Diamondbacks, who have lost three of four after a franchise-record 13-game winning streak.

Greinke gave up five hits and two runs in seven innings. He fanned six, reaching 200 strikeouts for the sixth season, and did not walk a batter.

Arizona took a 1-0 lead when Martinez doubled with one out in the second inning before Brandon Drury walked. The runners moved up on a groundout.

Ketel Marte was intentionally walked to bring up Greinke, who singled off Freeland's glove to drive in Martinez. Drury, attempting to score, was thrown out at the plate by LeMahieu.

Colorado made it 1-1 in the third inning when Jonathan Lucroy led off with a triple and scored on LeMahieu's two-out single.

Rosales' sacrifice fly in the fourth inning put Arizona back on top.

LeMahieu doubled with one out in the sixth inning and scored on Arenado's two-out double to tie the game at 2.

NOTES: Arizona RHP Zack Greinke reached 200 strikeouts for the sixth time in his career, all since 2009, when he struck out LHP Tyler Anderson in the fifth inning. Greinke, Max Scherzer, Clayton Kershaw, Justin Verlander and Felix Hernandez are the only pitchers with six 200-strikeout seasons in that timeframe. ... Arizona RF J.D. Martinez was the NL player of the week after hitting .429 with seven homers and 11 RBIs in six games. He had a four-homer game in Dodger Stadium on Sept. 4. ... The line drive by Martinez that knocked out Rockies LHP Kyle Freeland was measured at 115 mph off the bat.
