Bryan Reynolds hit a three-run homer and Alexander Canario cracked two doubles to lead the host Pittsburgh Pirates to a 9-1 victory over the New York Mets on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series.

Reynolds' 402-foot home run -- his ninth of the season -- off reliever Blade Tidwell in the sixth made it 9-1 Pirates, who halted a two-game skid and won for the third time in five games.

The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Mets and was their 11th defeat in their past 14 games.

The Pirates jumped ahead with four runs in the second off Mets starter David Peterson (5-4). Jared Triolo's single, Canario's first double and a Isiah Kiner-Falefa each drove in a run before Tommy Pham contributed an RBI groundout.

Peterson gave up five runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out five over 4 2/3 innings.

Kiner-Falefa, Ke'Bryan Hayes and Andrew McCutchen had two hits each for Pittsburgh.

Juan Soto cut the Mets' deficit to 4-1 in the fourth with his 20th home run of the season off Pirates starter Mitch Keller (2-10).

Keller did not surrender any more runs as he recorded his first win since March 28. He pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed five hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

Brett Baty posted two hits for New York.

Brandon Nimmo was hit by a pitch on the left wrist by reliever Genesis Cabrera in the eighth but remained in the game. Cabrera made his team debut, tossing 1 1/3 shutout innings with one strikeout.
