Pavin Smith and Carson Kelly homered Wednesday as the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks avoided a three-game series sweep by beating the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-2.
David Peralta added three hits and two RBIs for the Diamondbacks, who had lost four of five.
Arizona starter Tyler Gilbert went five innings, allowing two runs and three hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
Brett de Geus (3-2) threw a scoreless sixth, and Tyler Clippard pitched the ninth for his fifth save.
Michael Chavis hit an RBI single for the Pirates, who fell to 0-11 in games when they had a chance to complete a series sweep this season.
Pittsburgh starter Bryse Wilson, fresh off the injured list after recovering from arm fatigue, pitched five shutout innings. He allowed two hits and two walks while striking out seven.
Anthony Banda (2-1) gave up a run in 1 2/3 innings.
Gilbert was making the third start of his career and his second since he threw a no-hitter against the San Diego Padres 11 days earlier. This time, he was perfect through 3 1/3 innings.
In the fourth, Ke'Bryan Hayes doubled to right with one out and went to third on a passed ball. Bryan Reynolds reached on a fielder's choice with Hayes nearly being thrown out returning to third. Hayes scored on Jacob Stallings' sacrifice fly for a 1-0 Pittsburgh lead.
The Pirates added another run in the fifth. Gregory Polanco led off with a double to right. An out later, pinch hitter Colin Moran drew a walk. Chavis drove in Polanco with a base hit to left to double the lead.
Arizona tied it in the sixth. Against reliever Nick Mears, Smith hit his 10th homer, to right, with one out. Christian Walker walked, chasing Mears for Banda.
After Josh VanMeter popped out, Peralta singled to right, where Polanco misplayed the ball, which rolled under his glove. The error allowed Walker to score from first to make it 2-2.
With Banda still pitching in the seventh, Kelly, pinch-hitting, sent his 10th homer just into the stands in left with one out for a 3-2 Diamondbacks lead.
In the eighth against Pittsburgh's Kyle Keller, Smith walked, and an out later, VanMeter singled to right. Both scored on Peralta's double to left for a 5-2 Arizona lead.
