Pirates 10, Brewers 3: Andrew McCutchen homered among his three hits and drove in three runs as host Pittsburgh extended its winning streak to seven games by seizing the series opener.

Starling Marte finished a homer shy of the cycle, had two RBIs and scored twice to help rookie Gerrit Cole (4-0) become the first Pirates starter in 106 years to win his first four major-league starts. Cole recovered from a three-run first inning to hold Milwaukee scoreless on three hits over his next five innings before Ryan Reid worked the final three frames for his first career save.

Neil Walker had a two-run double in a seven-run second inning as the Pirates (49-30) moved one game ahead of St. Louis for the best record in the majors. Pittsburgh's seven-game run is its longest since winning 10 in a row during the 2004 season.

Brewers rookie Johnny Hellweg had a forgettable major-league debut, getting shelled for seven runs - five earned - on six hits in 1 2/3 innings. He pitched a 1-2-3 first before the second-inning debacle, which was compounded by shortstop Jean Segura's two-run error.

Juan Francisco went 2-for-4 with a first-inning RBI single and Carlos Gomez had a pair of hits in his return to the lineup after missing three games with a shoulder injury for the Brewers, who lost for the fourth time in five games.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cole was charged with three runs on eight hits in six innings to extend Pittsburgh's streak of a starter not allowing more than three runs to 14 straight games. ... Pirates 3B Pedro Alvarez extended his hitting streak to 11 games, matching his career high set during his rookie season in 2010, while Brewers 2B Rickie Weeks ran his streak to a career-best 12 games. ... Brewers 1B Corey Hart, who has yet to play this year while recovering from right knee surgery, will undergo season-ending surgery on his left knee next month. A two-time All-Star, Hart averaged 29 homers over the past three seasons.
