Astros 7, Tigers 5: Carlos Corporan homered and drove in the go-ahead run with a double in the top of the ninth inning as visiting Houston salvaged the finale of a lopsided season series with Detroit.

The Tigers had won the first six meetings between the teams by a 50-12 margin but couldn't pull off what would have been their second sweep of the Astros this month. J.D. Martinez, who also had a three-run homer, walked to lead off the ninth and scored when Corporan greeted reliever Phil Coke with a double to center.

Matt Dominguez added a sacrifice fly to make it 7-5, and Jose Veras loaded the bases on two walks and a hit batter before getting Miguel Cabrera to fly to the wall in center to end it for his fifth save. Five Houston relievers, including winner Hector Ambriz (1-2), combined on 3 1/3 scoreless frames.

Avisail Garcia gave Detroit an early 4-1 lead with a three-run homer, the first of his career, but Martinez capped a four-run Astros fourth with his third home run to give the visitors a 5-4 edge. Matt Tuiasosopo, who was 3-for-3, tied it with an RBI single in the sixth before Houston rallied against Al Alburquerque (0-1) and Coke in the ninth.

Tigers starter Max Scherzer gave up five runs in seven innings, striking out seven. Dallas Keuchel allowed five runs - four earned - in 5 2/3 frames for Houston.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Tigers were trying to record the first season series sweep of at least four games in franchise history. ... The bottom third of Detroit's starting lineup went 5-for-9 with a homer and five RBIs. ... After a day off, the Astros stay on the road with the first of three straight in Pittsburgh on Friday. Detroit opens a four-game series at Texas on Thursday in a matchup of division leaders.
