Braves 7, Phillies 5:
Freddie Freeman hit a two-run homer and had three RBIs as host Atlanta went deep three times on Cole Hamels to defeat National League East rival Philadelphia.

Dan Uggla and Justin Upton, making his Braves debut, added solo shots while Chris Johnson and Gerald Laird added two hits apiece for Atlanta, which won its
fifth straight Opening Day game. Luis Avilan (1-0) escaped a jam in the fifth inning in relief of starter Tim Hudson and pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings.

Chase Utley hit his 200th career homer, delivered a two-run single and tripled for the Phillies. Hamels (0-1) allowed five runs, seven hits and struck out five
in five innings.

Freeman's homer landed in the Braves' bullpen in the first inning while Uggla drove a 3-0 fastball into the left field seats in the second. Freeman's two-out single scored Andrelton Simmons in the third inning before Utley got Philadelphia on the board with a blast over the center field wall in the fourth.

Utley's one-out single with the bases loaded in the fifth inning made it 4-3 and chased Hudson. Avilan relieved and struck out Ryan Howard, walked Michael Young intentionally with first base open and retired Domonic Brown on a groundout.
