Morales took an 0-2 pitch by A’s starter Brandon McCarthy over the left center field wall in the first inning, after singles by Howie Kendrick and Albert Pujols. It was the first home run for Morales since May 29, 2010, when he broke his ankle in a home-plate celebration after belting a walk-off homer.

Weaver (2-0) retired the first 11 batters he faced before Josh Reddick singled in the fourth. The right-hander allowed five hits and one walk. He struck out six, including the 1,000th of his career.

Morales added an RBI double in the eighth to key a three-run rally. The four RBIs were his first of the season.

Torii Hunter and Pujols each had a pair of hits for the Angels, who started a seven-game home stand with a win after a 2-4 road trip.

McCarthy (0-2), making his fourth start, allowed 11 hits and five runs over seven-plus innings.
