Cubs 9, Cardinals 5
: Bryan LaHair hit a grand slam and Ian Stewart added a three-run blast as visiting Chicago spoiled St. Louis’ World Series celebration.

Starlin Castro went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Cubs, who had to sit through a 104-minute rain delay and a lengthy pregame ceremony before taking the field.

The Cubs watched the rival Cardinals raise their banner and immediately turned the celebratory mood sour in the top of the first with three straight hits off Adam Wainwright (0-2) to start the contest. Castro’s single brought in the first run and Stewart followed the first out with a three-run blast down the line in right to make it 4-0.

LaHair made Wainwright pay for some wildness in the third inning by driving a first-pitch sinker into the bullpen in left-center for his first career grand slam.

Wainwright, who is making his way back from Tommy John surgery, was lifted after allowing eight runs and seven hits in three innings.

Jeff Samardzija (2-0) made it through the first four innings clean before St. Louis made a comeback bid with a five-run fifth. The right-hander yielded four straight two-out hits before getting a strikeout to end the rally.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The rain prevented the Budweiser Clydesdales from being a part of the pregame festivities, which included appearances by all of the club’s living Hall of Famers. … After totaling 19 runs in the first six games, the Cubs have put up 17 in the last two. … Cardinals 1B Lance Berkman (calf) missed his second straight game.
