White Sox 7, Cubs 0: Gordon Beckham homered and drove in four runs to back 6 1/3 scoreless innings from Gavin Floyd as the host White Sox averted a three-game sweep.

Floyd (5-7) beat the Cubs for the first time in five career starts, scattering four hits to win for only the second time in his last seven outings. Three relievers combined to finish off the shutout.

Beckham broke the game open and snapped a 15-game homerless drought with an opposite-field blast off Scott Maine in the sixth inning to make it 6-0.

Adam Dunn, Paul Konerko and Alexei Ramirez all had RBI singles for the White Sox, who won for only the second time in eight games to remain a half-game behind front-running Cleveland in the American League Central.

Cubs starter Randy Wells (1-2) lasted only 3 2/3 innings in his first start in nearly two months. He gave up three runs on five hits and four walks and exited after Beckham's RBI single in the fourth.

Floyd had a 10.38 ERA and allowed 11 homers in his previous six starts, but he kept the Cubs off the board despite giving up a double to open the third and a leadoff triple in the sixth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Beckham tied a career high with his four RBIs. ... Wells fells to 0-5 in eight interleague starts since 2010, while Floyd earned his first interleague win in six starts since 2011. ... The Cubs absorbed their major league-worst 26th defeat on the road. ... The White Sox have lost five consecutive series but they have yet to be swept.
