Kris Medlen pitched eight stellar innings to run his scoreless streak to 28 1/3 frames as visiting Atlanta snapped San Diego’s season-high eight-game winning streak.

Medlen (6-1) struck out nine and allowed five hits without a walk while beating the Padres for the second time in 13 days. He is 5-0 in six starts since joining the rotation.

Craig Kimbrel allowed a leadoff single by Everth Cabrera in the ninth before striking out the next three batters for his 32th save in 34 opportunities as the Braves pulled within four games of National League East-leading Washington.

Chipper Jones had a run-scoring double and Dan Uggla homered for Atlanta’s runs off Anthony Werner, who was making his second major-league start.

Werner (1-1) allowed two runs and four hits in six innings. He struck out seven and walked none.

Martin Prado stroked a one-out single in the first, advanced to second on a grounder and stole third before Jones drove him home with a double to right-center field.

Uggla led off the fifth with a booming homer to left that represented the 1,000th hit of his career.
