Braves 6, Diamondbacks 4: Jason Heyward and Chipper Jones belted homers, and Tommy Hanson carried a shutout into the seventh inning as host Atlanta beat Arizona for the second consecutive night.

One night after opening a 10-game homestand with 17 hits in an 8-1 victory, the Braves made the most of their offensive chances. Arizona starter Trevor Cahill’s fifth-inning throwing error led to two unearned runs, and Atlanta scored twice on sacrifice flies.

Heyward extended his hitting streak to 12 games in the first inning, connecting off Cahill (6-6) for his 12th homer of the season to give the Braves a 1-0 advantage.

The game stayed there until the fifth. Cahill tried to cut down Freddie Freeman at second base, but his throw was low and bounced into center field. Jones scored on the play to make it 2-0.

Sacrifice flies by Michael Bourn and Martin Prado plated two more in the inning.

Jones made it 6-0 in the sixth with a two-run blast to straightaway center, his sixth of the season and 460th of his career.

Arizona pulled within 6-4 in the seventh. Ryan Roberts hit his sixth homer, a three-run shot off Hanson and Chris Young hit a pinch-hit solo homer, also his sixth, off Jonny Venters.

Hanson (9-4) won for the fourth time in his past five starts, allowing seven hits and three runs. Hanson walked one and struck out five. Craig Kimbrel struck out the side in the ninth for his National League-leading 22nd save.

Cahill surrendered six runs (four earned) and four hits in five innings, walking four and striking out three.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cahill had allowed only four homers in 90 2/3 innings this season. … The Braves improved to 27-1 when scoring five or more runs this season. … Arizona SS Stephen Drew, out since last July with a broken ankle, went 1-for-4 in his return to the lineup. ... Atlanta finished with only five hits.
