Tim Stauffer stifled the San Francisco Giants for the second time this month and the San Diego Padres took advantage of an ineffective Barry Zito en route to a 4-2 victory on Saturday.

Miguel Tejada went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Padres, who pulled within a game of the NL West-leading Giants with one contest remaining.

Stauffer (6-5) limited San Francisco to one run and three hits in 6 1/3 innings, exiting after Juan Uribe's one-out solo homer in the seventh. The right-hander, who walked two and struck out four, scattered three hits over six scoreless frames in a 1-0 triumph over the Giants on Sept. 11.

Luke Gregerson and Mike Adams combined for 1 2/3 perfect innings and Heath Bell yielded a run in the ninth before notching his 47th save in 50 chances.

Zito (9-14) struggled from the start, allowing the first two batters he faced to reach on singles and intentionally walking Adrian Gonzalez with one out to load the bases. After Ryan Ludwick popped out, Zito walked Yorvit Torrealba and Scott Hairston to force in two runs.

Tejada led off the third with a single and scored on an error later in the inning before delivering a single in the fourth that scored Stauffer, who led off the inning with a walk, and gave San Diego a 4-0 bulge.

Zito surrendered four runs - three earned - and five hits in just three-plus innings. The veteran left-hander walked four and struck out four in falling to 1-10 in his last 15 outings.

Pablo Sandoval had two hits and an RBI for the Giants, who fell to 1-7 at home against the Padres this year.
