Mike Sweeney hit two homers and drove in a season-high six RBIs as the stagnant Seattle Mariners crushed the San Diego Padres 15-8 in an interleague opener on Friday night.

Sweeney, who went 4-for-5, was part of the Mariners’ biggest offensive outing since May 4, 2007 -- a 15-11 victory over the New York Yankees.

Sweeney’s three-run homer capped a seven-run second inning and he followed with a two-run homer in Seattle’s five-run fourth. Josh Bard homered, doubled and drove in three runs as Seattle amassed a season-high 15 hits.

Seattle starter Cliff Lee (2-2) had his worst start of the season, allowing eight runs - seven earned – on 11 hits in 6 1/3 innings but got plenty of support to improve to 13-2 all-time in interleague play. Lee struck out seven and had no walks. He has 32 strikeouts and one walk this season.

San Diego’s Wade LeBlanc (2-2) gave up eight runs in three innings as his ERA went from 1.54 to 3.32.

Trailing 15-4, the Padres made it somewhat respectable with a four-run seventh inning, capped by Oscar Salazar’s two-run single. San Diego's David Eckstein and Adrian Gonzalez each went 4-for-5 with three runs scored.
